Biff and Willy are obviously harboring ill feelings towards on e another, plainly neither are willing to bring the reason into light. In Act II we disc everywhere Biff had discovered his father was having an extra-marital affair. Biff, already distraught over not graduating, was crushed. It is human nature to want patterns, standards, and a structure of behavior. A pattern to conform to is a kind of shelter. This quote can be considered valid or invalid depending on the person who is reading the quote. Whether it is someone give care the Puritans in the Scarlet Letter who believes that liveliness should be lived in a unbending manner, or whether it is someone who cannot stand a uniform life, there willing be never a time when everyone accepts or denies this quote.People feel impregnable and confident when they are given standards or expectations. This gives them reassurance that they are living their lives the right way. For an example, in Nathaniel Hawthornes novel, The Scarlet Letter, the townsfolk look down upon Hester Prynne because of the crime she committed. Hester Prynne broke a law which reinforced the bystanders confidence on how they were living their lives. This causes the townspeople to feel safe and protected so they patch up to mock and taunt He ster to make themselves feel stronger.People also conform to live their lives in a strict manner because sometimes they just need guidance. After Hester was released from prison, she decided to live her life helping the poor and elderly. Hester does this because she is lost and does not know how to live her life anymore after she strayed off the strict path the Puritans were reflect to follow. Although many may bump happiness in a habitual lifestyle, many opposite people may find happiness in a carefree life. But because of what she did, she was able to give birth to her daughter who she loves so much, find the man she truly loves, and see the hidden darkness that was buried deep within Roger Chillingworths heart. 12 Angry Men Structural Elements

In the beginning, the 8th juror is the only one who feels sympathy for the boy being persecuted, believing that if he is to be sentenced to death in an electric hot seat then his case at least nee ds to be treated with empathy and caution, rather than carelessly putting the case behind in the quickest path and moving on, from apathy or prejudice.Over the course of the play the jurors realise that this is something they cannot walk away from, that they cannot escape from, and something that they must dedicate themselves to, they realise that the life of a young, poor boy, who lived in the slums and suffered from an abusive and harsh childhood is more important than what lies beyond the courtroom doors, and the fact that not only does the play take place in real time, but also largely takes place in one setting, better yet, one room, only conveys this feeling of the realisation that apathy is not the solution.They are trapped, isolated from the freedom of their lives, and the apathy or prejudiced that may have been a part of their lives, and confronted with the care they must have for the life of somebody else.The washroom exists as an escape for them, a place for their true t houghts, where even the apathy and hatred within them may return, but in the end it is connected the tete-a-tete room in which they vote, in the end they cannot simply decide whether a boy lives or dies based on that same apathy or hatred, it should be a lengthy and important process that should take into consideration the facts and the gravity of their decision, and not be influenced or diverted by the views of the people making that decision.Rose believes that the judicial system is flawed, yet by creating characters such as the 8th juror, the protagonist and also the first dissenter, he also believes that the judicial system is one that would be able to function with a treatment of empathy, severity and importance.
